Different Ekadashis and their importance and what to do on those days.
In India fasting and doing worship on Ekadasi days is quite common for the religiously inclined people.
Worship of Lord Vishnu is the most common one. The ruler of this tithi is Rudra. Many websites and Pandits are saying many funny things about various Ekadasis and hence we are giving you the authentic information as given in the Vedic scriptures.
Ekadasi has a special spritual significance. The Moon rules the mind. During its transit as Moon passes from one Tith to another Tithi, its position relates to the various shad chakras – the six spiritual nerve centers in our body. In the Shukla paksha (bright fortnight) Ekadsi Moon’s position relates to the Ajna Chakra, and in the Krishna paksha (dark fortnight) Ekadasi it relates in the Anahata Chakra. Both these chakras are of very important spiritual significance and in these two chakras Moon is very happy and auspicious and is very conducive spiritually. Hence One can worship with better concentration with peace of mind.
According the astrology Ekadasi is a Nanda tithi which bestows happiness and peace. The Chandra kala of tithi is Jyostna. The Nitya devi ruling this tithi is Vahnivasini. The Nitya devi mantra is – Om Hrim Vahnivasiniyai Namah Vahnivasini NityaShri Padukam Pujayami Tarpayami Namah.
The details of Ekadasis as per the ancient scriptures.
Once eighty eight thousand rishis and Muni Ved Vyas, the prime Pandit Sutji were seated at Tapobhoomi Namishaaranya.
Everyone asked Sutji one question. ” In the coming generation to get rid of all sorrows what is the remedy. We all are eager to hear from you”.
Hearing this request Shri Sutji said for the well being of humanity this question which you have said with the blessings of Shri Ved Vyasji I am going to narrate to you. Now you will all listen with attention.
Sutji said in one year there are 12 months and the 12 months have 24 Ekadashis – one in Shukla paksha and one in Krishna paksha. In a Leap year (Adhika Maas) there is one extra month so 2 additional Ekadashi are there. So total there are 26 Ekadashis.
