Pradosham, or Pradosh, the 13th lunar phase called trayodasi, is a very auspicious day to worship Lord Shiva.
Pra-dosh means removal of sin. Both the Trayodashi Tithis – Shukla Paksha Trayodashi and Krishna Paksha Trayodashi – are considered good. Pradosham falling on Monday is called Soma Pradosham, on Tuesday it is called Bhauma Pradosham and on Saturday it is called as Shani Pradosham. Pradosh vrat is very common in India.
The Pradosha period is 6 ghatikas after sunset according to dharmsindhu. Each ghatika is 24 minutes. So 24 X 6 = 144 minutes after sun set is the best time to worship of Lord Shiva and gives fulfillment of wishes.
The famous Kartika month is from 28th October to 26th November. It is described in the scriptures as the holiest month to worship Lord Shiva to seek the blessings and boons for peace, spiritual progress, prosperity and wealth. The Kartika month Mondays and the Pradosha days (13th lunar day) are the most auspicious and rewarding.
