This Konkan land is the land created by Parshuram and is considered to be the ‘land of God’. The beautiful nature here, the proximity of the endless sea and the peaks of the Sahyadri are breath taking. The temple of Lord Parashuram at Parashuram was built by Chalukya dynasty emperor Pulakeshi.
After conquering and slaying all the notorious kings by waging war 27 times, Ashwamedha Yajna was performed at Chiplun. The city of Chiplun was established as a sacrificial village for this yajna. Rigvedi and Yajurvedi sages were brought by sea from South Gujarat. He later became known as Chittapavan. Chiplun is the place where HE resides permanently even now. According to the scriptures he will be there till the end of Kaliyuga when the Kalki incarnation will be born. Parashuram will then teach warfare with Divya Astras to Kalki so that Kalki will destroy all the evil of Kalliyuga.

It is believed that Lord Parshuram departs for the Himalayas at dawn to perform penance and returns to the temple at dusk.
