The Navamsha and the Promise of Children
Mansagari
If Mars is posited in the 5th and the Jupiter in the 4th house in the navamsha, the native is blessed with 1, 3 or 5 sons. If Mercury, Venus and Saturn are associated with either the 4th or the 5th house in any way, the native is blessed with 2, 4, 6 or 7 sons.
Comments :
This is a very specific combination and requires to be tested and applied by the learned astrologers, though there is little doubt that the learned past masters of Vedic astrology would have written anything without first testing it. Obviously the social and family conditions and circumstances have undergone a big change since then. In the modern context we can derive the following observations from this :
- In case of association of Mars and Jupiter, the number of children would be odd and in case of Mercury, Venus and Saturn the number of children would be even. Whereas the number of children in the former condition would be less, there may be many children in the later condition.
- The fifth house also signifies learning, writing and romance. If the fifth house is strong the above principles may be liberally used for the said signification too.
If the third house has Leo sign and Jupiter is posited in the fifth, Saturn in the 6th, the Sun in the seventh, Mars in the tenth and Rahu in the eleventh or in a kendra, the native does not have children or suffers loss of children.
Comments :
- This is again a specific condition for the Gemini lagna. The Jupiter in the fifth house has been considered bad for children as the classical dictum is ‘if the significator of any bhava is posited in that bhava, it should be considered inauspicious.’ Jupiter is the karaka or the significator of the 5th house, hence its being posited in the 5th house is not good.
- Mars is a malefic and becomes the sixth lord for Gemini lagna; from tenth house its 8th aspect on 5th house is again very bad.
- Rahu in the 11th house aspects ‘the fifth house and the fifth house would now be in Rahu-Ketu axis, which is a very malefic combination for children.
- Both the signs of Jupiter are occupied by malefics (the Sun in the 7th house in Sagittarius and the Mars in 10th house in Pisces).
If a malefic planet as 12th lord is posited in the 3rd, 6th, 9th or the 12th house and a combust planet or Ketu is posited in the 5th house, then the native suffers loss of the son (or a daughter).
Comments :
- Putra or son:- is common for sons as well daughters and may be interpreted liberally unless the word “daughter” has been specifically used.
- The above principle applies to Taurus (a natural malefic planet Mars being the lord of 12th house), Virgo (Sun being the 12th lord), Sagittarius (again Mars is the 12th lord), Aquarius and Pisces (Saturn being the 12th lord for both) lagnas.
- The 12th house, being 8th from the fifth, and its lord being a malefic planet, and position of Ketu or a combust planet in the fifth house, has been given special attention here.
The number of unafflicted and strong planets posited or associated with the fifth house in the navamsha chart, decides the number of children. If among these planets male planets are stronger, the number of male children is more.
If the Moon, Venus or Mercury is either posited in the 5th house or aspects it (in the navamsha chart) the number of female children is more. The number of the children is decided by the number of planets associated. If Saturn influences the fifth house, the children die in the womb itself.
Some scholars insist that all the above combinations should also be verified, considering the Moon sign in the navamsha chart as the lagna.
The fifth house of the navamsha should be closely studied, considering the benefic/malefic aspects on it. In case of benefic influences the native has children and gets comforts from them. In case of malefic influence either there would be no children or the native has no comfort them.
Comments :
- A subtle clue to interpret the navamsha chart has been given here: to consider the Moon sign in the navamsha chart as the lagna, and interpret various bhavas from it. Most of the traditional Vedic astrologers do that secretly.
- Not only the fifth house, but all the bhavas about which s me serious approach is needed, should be interpreted from the rashi chart, the Moon chart, the navamsha chart, and the navamsha chart considering the Moon as the Lagna. The status of others planets in divisional charts should also be considered.
