
Basar temple is associated with the sage Vyasa, who is said to have meditated there and installed the idols of Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Kali, forming the divine trinity.
Basar is a town in the Nirmal district of Telangana, approximately 30 km from Bhainsa and 210 Kms from Hyderabad. It is located on the banks of Godavari River.
The present temple was constructed by Raja ‘Bijialudu’ a Karnataka king, who ruled the province of Nandagiri with Nanded as his capital in the sixth century, constructed the temple at Basara.
The main deity here is Goddess Saraswati.

Besides Saraswati, the temple also houses idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Goddess Kali.
Many pilgrims come to Gnana Saraswati Temple Basara to perform the “Akshara abhyasam” ceremony for the children before they start formal school education. The children perform the exercise of letters, and devote books, pens, pencils notebooks to the goddess of knowledge. Most preferred day especially on Vasantha Panchami.
