Puja of Shaligram
See Saligrama
Pooja picture at our place on Vaikuntha Ekadasi day >>
The Skanda Purana
says that Shalagramas do not require installation(pratisthana). When
one begins the worship of shalagrama, however he should start with
elaborate puja using all articles. The worship of shalagrama is the
best form of worship, better than the worship of the sun.
The Gautamiya Tantra says devotees should take the
charanamrita mixed with Tulasi leaves from the shalagrama in their
hand and sip it, sprinkling the balance on their heads.
The Padma Purana
explains that all those holy rivers awarding moksha, such as the
Ganga, Godavari and others, reside in the charanamrita of shalagrama.
In the Sammohana Tantra it is written that shalagrama should
not be placed on the earth or ground and worshiped.
Shrimad Bhagavatam mentions that in the worship of shalagrama
it is unnecessary to call the Lord for worship or request Him to
return His abode upon completion, i.e., no need for avahana,
sthapana and visarjana etc.
The Brihan-naradiya Purana Shri Narada Muni says it's
impossible to explain the importance of Tulasi leaves in the worship
of shalagrama, as Tulasi is the most beloved consort of Hari in the
form of shalagrama
In the Skanda Purana Lord Shiva tells Parvati that one who
takes the charanamrita of shalagrama destroys all sinful reactions
at their roots, even the killing of a brahmana. Elsewhere the Skanda
Purana states that by taking the remnants of foodstuffs offered to
shalagrama, one will get the result of performing many sacrifices.
The pictures we have put
on these pages are rare ones or opened ones showing the inner
section. The saligramas you get in the market normally look like
rocks, like the picture bellow. Only when broken & opened the inner
section marks can be seen.
The yellow colour
Saligrama is considered more auspicious as they are good for
prosperity and wealth.
The Skanda Purana warns
that no one should sell shalagramas. However a lot of people want to
worship a Saligrama and most of them can't go up to the Gandaki
River at Mukti Kshetra situated high in the Himalayas. In the
Kaliyuga 2006, it is not possible to follow all the rules of Dwapara
Yuga. These Saligramas are collected from the river by the villagers
and brought to us. After deducting the packaging and courier charges
the rest of the money goes to the poor villagers of Muktinath at
north-west Nepal, whose village is the blessed place where this
sacred Shila of Lord Narayana is found.
